Hi All,
I'm in the market for a new VHF, I'm hoping for one that doesn't pack it in after 2 seasons (grrr).
Any one got good service from any particular make/model?
Pity I missed

VHF recommendations...
Re: VHF recommendations...
Hi Ivan.
Sick of going through Icoms? Get one of these. I find it works really well and often times I have been paddling beside people with ICOM's and I pick up comms that they don't.
I'd recommend spending the extra money and get the DSC. Just in case the s--t really hits the fan! One press and you can expect rescue. Not that I have tested it thankfully.
You may need some training if you have not yet done so to familiarise yourself with DSC and proper radio comms.

Hey JH,
That looks interesting. I need to do some reading on DSC.
I have a PLB1.. DSC sounds like a nice backup.

Hi Ivan.
Most of the VHF providers can cover that for you these days.
But if you have a PLB you are well covered.

Jon

September and I've only just noticed this thread. "Just one press of the red button ..."
You might still want to make the Distress call - as your set will revert to Ch.16 after the automated alert is sent. This may well reach someone without DSC who may be able to help. Sorry for the delay in responding. J.

Re: VHF recommendations...
I want to warn everyone about a design fault with my Icom M33 (now replaced by a new model). even with the keys locked the on/off button still works. My radio has a tendency to switch itself off if I'm carrying it in a pocket.
Good when I want a peaceful paddle, Bad when the group are trying to contact me.
